Hello, I’m Heidi — designer, dreamer, and founder of the brand formerly known as FORTYTWO.
My creative journey began in 2002 after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from California State University, Chico. For years, I worked with small businesses and individuals to design websites, logos, and marketing materials. But as life evolved — through motherhood, personal transformation, and a growing passion for fashion — so did my path.
After a divorce, I made the decision to return to school and earned my Master of Fine Arts in Fashion Design and Merchandising from Academy of Art University in San Francisco. In 2016, I opened Forty Two & Co., a boutique and art co-op in my local community, where I collaborated with other makers and artists to offer a curated, creative space.
When the world shifted in 2020, so did my business. I took my vision online and launched a swimwear brand called FORTYTWO — focused on size inclusivity, eco-friendly fabrics, and hand-drawn designs. Each pattern was created by me and printed on sustainable materials by a manufacturing partner who brought the pieces to life.
Now, I’m entering a new chapter: a relaunch, a rebrand, and an expansion. FORTYTWO is evolving beyond swimwear into a full lifestyle brand rooted in slow fashion, natural materials, and timeless style. We’re offering dresses, skirts, bags, footwear, and accessories — all crafted with care using cotton, linen, leather, and other high-quality natural fibers. Each item is designed with love and handmade in both the USA and the UK.
This new name and direction are deeply personal. I’ve always been inspired by vintage fashion — especially from the 1960s and 70s — and I grew up immersed in a rich heritage of fashion, design and entrepreneurship. My great-grandparents owned a baby bonnet and dress factory in a small Utah town, supplying stores like ZCMI and JCPenney in the 1940s and 50s. My grandmother took over the business into the 60s, continuing the family tradition of entrepreneurship and craftsmanship. On the other side of my family, my maternal grandmother sewed beautiful clothing for her five daughters and taught me to sew and cross-stitch as a child. I still cherish her vintage sewing pattern collection — a treasured legacy that inspires many of my designs today.
So, this is me: A teen of the '90s, a lover of all things vintage, and a believer in creating clothing that feels meaningful, lasting, and true to your spirit.
Thanks for being here. I hope you feel the vibe.
